AFNORTH International School Annual Awards Ceremony

As a reoccurring event ringing in the end of the school year at the AFNORTH International School (AIS) in Brunssum the annual International Award Ceremony took place this week.

Guided through the programme, in the German and English languages, by two student ‘Masters of Ceremony’ awards were presented by dignitaries from: Headquarters Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum; the NATO Airborne Early Warning & Control Force E-3A Component Geilenkirchen; and AIS Staff.

The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) cadets’ presentation of colours opened the ceremony whilst high quality musical performances, provided by the AIS Chorus and individual musicians, made this an unforgettable evening for all attendees as they observed presentations of the Student Service Awards, the Fine Arts Awards, the Director’s Awards, the David Newell Award, the Jane Elder Award and the European Council of International Schools Award for International Understanding.

The most prestigious school award is as old as NATO’s presence in Brunssum and was presented by Lieutenant General Fernando Alejandre, Deputy Commander Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum.  Initiated by General Johann Graf von Kielmansegg, the first Commander In Chief Central Forces Europe (CINCENT) in 1967, the Graf von Kielmansegg Award was presented to Alberto Loken (a Norwegian student) for his distinguished contributions to the international goals of AFNORTH International School.
