Brunssum Town Golfers Challenge JFC Brunssum Golfers

Brunssum, Netherlands – On the evening prior to the 50 year anniversary festivities, legs were stretched, arms massaged, clubs sharpened, and four mixed flights of golfers competed in a nine-hole golf match.  For the JFC the first flight consisted of General Farina and Colonel Altena; their counterparts from the town being Mayor Winants and Alderman Joosten.  Over nine holes the General and his team-mate slowly gained terrain on their civilian opponents and, with the help of an almost hole-in-one on the eighth, the battle was over.  The same more-or-less happened within the other flights where the JFC teams, it has to be said, demonstrated a superior golfing prowess.

Mr Stofberg, representing the town of Brunssum, won the longest drive competition with a tremendous swing that resulted in his ball travelling approximately 200 metres before coming to rest on the fairway.  Colonel Altena proved to be a precision hitter on the par 3’s, dispatching his ball accurately over a distance of 135 metres, where it stopped three metres from the hole.  He was awarded the prize for ‘closest to the pin’.

However, within this highly social golfing event the bond between town representatives and headquarters personnel was evident throughout.  Plans were made to continue similar gathering in the future.
