Brunssum, the Netherlands – Spain’s National Day was celebrated at JFC Brunssum International Conference Centre on the evening of Thursday 12 October. Spanish Delegation, led by Lieutenant General Juan Campins, hosted such a significant event.
LTG Campins, Deputy Commander JFCBS, warmly welcomed all the guests and awarded three Spanish Officers with the Cross of the Military Merit.
In his remarks, LTG Campins emphasized that they celebrate the National Day with strong feelings of honor and pride for being citizens of Spain and, as soldiers, with renewed feelings of duty and service to their Country. He explained that 12 October was recognized as Spain’s National Day in 1987. Spain commemorates two crucial events in its history that took place in 1492: the Spanish Kingdom unification and the discovery of America. It is also celebrated the brotherhood between the Spanish speaker Countries in America and Spain and the day of the Virgin of "El Pilar” with profound roots in Spanish tradition.
In response, and on behalf of all invited guests, General Salvatore Farina, Commander JFC Brunssum, thanked the Spanish Contingent for their hospitality and praised the Spanish contribution to humanity History since 1492 and, currently, to NATO’s common efforts on security and defence.
During the evening, guests were shown a presentation about Spanish traditions, history and culture and Armed Forces. They could enjoy a selection of Spanish food and drink.
