Brunssum, the Netherlands - On the evening of Wednesday 25 April the Netherlands contingent of JFC Brunssum hosted their annual King’s Day celebrations in the headquarters’ International Conference Centre. This year’s theme was the four elements – Earth, Air, Fire, and Water - that, in western astrology, are believed to have formed the universe. This was reflected in the decorations of the different areas as follows: a central area with main stage was designed around the element Fire, represented by Red and Yellow decorations and balloons; Earth was represented by the use of green coloured table covers and a large number of Bamboo planters; a lounge area was transformed around a Water theme comprising blue balloons, sitting areas with a fountain in the center, back-lit with blue LED lights; another room was set up around the element Air, represented by the use of white covers and white balloons, supported by pictures of AWACS aircraft based at the NATO Airbase Geilenkirchen and aircraft of the Royal Netherlands Airforce.
The Moral & Welfare Section of the Netherlands Armed Forces actively supported the Ball and provided both a DJ and Live band named "First.” This proved very popular and their playlists motivated people to use the dance floor which was continuously occupied until the Ball drew to a close in the early hours of the morning.
Approximately 800 people attended including a number of VIPs including Mayor Leers of Brunssum and the JFC Brunssum Commander, General Riccardo Marchiò, who’s attendance was delayed due to unanticipated travel challenges but, to everyone’s surprise and delight, he was able to join the Ball later than planned.
In summary, the Ball was a great success that has already attracted a myriad of thankful and congratulatory comments. Many thanks to the JFC Brunssum Netherlands contingent for, once again, staging such a generous, thoughtful and delightful event.
