Brunssum, the Netherlands - The French Delegation at Allied JFC Brunssum, led by Brigadier General Claude Goudeau, celebrated the 229th anniversary of the Bastille Day during an evening event on 12 July, 2018, at a manor house in the Schinvelder Hoeve (Schinvelder Hoeve is a beautiful old building close to Brunssum that has been converted into a hotel).
General Goudeau highlighted in his speech the very purpose of the Révolution and the goal of celebrating its achievements each year. Bastille Day is the common name given in English-speaking countries to the national day of France, which is celebrated on 14 July each year. The French National Day is the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July, 1789, a turning point of the French Revolution.
In response, and on behalf of General Riccardo Marchiò, Commander JFC Brunssum, Lieutenant General Juan Campíns, Deputy Commander JFC Brunssum, stressed the principle of solidarity illustrated by France’s commitments all over the world: "France is playing a pivotal role in NATO, EU, UN and coalitions. Because of the French solidarity, French military people are deployed not only in their own territory but also all over the globe helping to establish safe and secure environments, contain crisis in its early stages, training third-world armies or providing humanitarian aid to. In all these places, French soldiers performance is outstanding and we, as allies, can be proud of it and really grateful for their effort and great dedication since about 20 % of French soldiers are permanently deployed in operations”.
