Brunssum, the Netherlands – Lieutenant General Juan Campins made his final address to the JFC Brunssum staff prior to departing the headquarters at the end of his tour, later today. An inspirational and insightful speech described his surprise at being selected for this post as, at short notice, his predecessor suddenly left to become the Spanish Chief of Defence and his joy in the realisation that he had a uniformly high-quality staff to work with who were engaged in issues of the highest importance to the security of the Alliance. 'The real strength of JFC Brunssum lies within our personnel,' stated the General.
Looking ahead General Campins emphasized that, in the fast-evolving and unpredictable environment that surrounds us, 'the future will be as demanding as ever but keep the following key principles in mind and you should stay on the right path – check the details, always ensure coherence and anticipate at every level.'
After 46 years in the Spanish Army General Campins will formally retire in February 2019. As he departs he takes the best wishes of all who work at JFC Brunssum with him and a 'backpack full of truly rewarding memories and experiences' as he sets out on the next chapter of his life.
In short follow-on remarks General Marchiò, Commander JFC Brunssum, thanked General Campins for his 'steadfast commitment and wise counsel' that was sustained to the very last minute of his time in the headquarters. General Marchiò added his best wishes for a happy retirement and stated that he looked forward to a 'friendship for years to come.'
