Spain Permanent and Military Representatives visit JFC Brunssum

Brunssum, the Netherlands – The Permanent Representative from Spain, Ambassador Nicolás Pascual de la Parte, accompanied by the Spanish Military Representative, Admiral José Luis Urcelay, visited JFC Brunssum on April 30. He was received by the Commander, General Riccardo Marchiò, and the Deputy Commander, Lieutenant General Juan Campíns.

During his visit, the Ambassador received a number of briefings on a variety of topics outlining JFC Brunssum’s responsibilities and priorities with regard to advanced planning, the enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) initiative in North-eastern Europe, NATO’s Resolute Support Mission (RSM) in Afghanistan and the NATO Command Structure Adaptation (NCS-A).

The NCS-A is a result of the 2016 Warsaw Summit, in which the heads of State and Government announced the need to assess NATO’s Command Structure in recognition of the changing security environment. This adaptation directly supports the three core Alliance tasks: collective defence, crisis management and cooperative security.
The briefings had a particular focus on JFC Brunssum’s efforts and progress to implement SHAPE’s (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) Directives on advanced planning and eFP.

The Spanish Ambassador thanked the Commander for the quality of the presentations and applauded the professionalism and work of the staff at JFC Brunssum.
