Commander JFC Brunssum Visits Iceland

Brunssum, the Netherlands - General Riccardo Marchiò, Commander Joint Force Command Brunssum, visited Iceland 19/20 March.  In discussions with the Icelandic Director of Security and Defence, Mr Arnór Sigurjónsson, inter alia, transatlantic unity and the increasing importance (in security terms) of the High North were central themes.

The High North, comprised of the Arctic countries Denmark, Iceland and Norway, is a key focus point for security in the transatlantic area, whilst the sustainment of transatlantic unity is one of NATO’s core, and most prominent, goals.

During his visit General Marchiò focused on the perspective that Iceland should not be solely viewed from an economic perspective but seen more broadly in a geo-political context.
