Brunssum, the Netherlands - General Riccardo Marchiò, JFC Brunssum Commander, visited the Multinational Corps North-East (MNCNE), in Szczecin, today. During this visit General Marchiò underlined he considers MNCNE a key element of the eFP command and control structure on NATO’s north-eastern flank.
"Let me just emphasize the crucial role that MNCNE has at NATO`s Eastern Flank. Whether addressing eFP in conceptual terms or the role as higher command to the divisional headquarters and the NATO Force Integration Units, your headquarters is undoubtedly a key player in the chain of command for one of NATO`s critical focus areas,” said General Marchiò.
General Marchiò continued: "the last year was a very intense period in terms of training and exercises. Although not officially flagged as NATO activities, the exercises SABER STRIKE and ANAKONDA were important training events on NATO`s eastern flank with NATO nations and entities participating successfully, ably demonstrating the warfighting capabilities of our Alliance. MNCNE played an important role in all of these exercises without which improvements in readiness and the standing NATO Force Structure would not have been possible.”
Note: MNCNE is tasked to plan and prepare for collective defence activities under Article V of the North Atlantic Treaty and to contribute with its Headquarters within the framework of the United Nations, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, or regional arrangements pursuant to Chapter VIII of the Charter of the United Nations, to multinational crisis management operations including peace support operations. MNCNE is also tasked to plan, prepare and conduct humanitarian and rescue missions, including natural disaster relief missions, upon request.”
