Brunssum, the Netherlands – on the 12th and 13th of March, General Riccardo Marchiò attended the LANDCOM Corps Commanders' Conference in Izmir (Turkey), hosted by U.S. Army Lieutenant General John Thomson, Commander of the NATO LANDCOM Headquarters. The purpose of the Conference was to bring commanders from different NATO Force and Command Structures together to develop a shared view on the role of Land Forces and to discuss emerging challenges.
The conference in Izmir focused on multiple topics including: Land Command and Control, Training & Exercises, NATO Command Structure and Combat Readiness Evaluations.
General Marchiò, Commander of Joint Force Command Brunssum, who has attended seven such Conferences in the last four years, noted that - "as we move to address new threats and new domains it is critical that we build readiness and stay agile in our thinking."
During the conference the 12th of March was notable for also marking the day of the 20th Anniversary of Polish, Hungarian and Czech accession into NATO.
