German Chief of Defence visited Brunssum

Brunssum, the Netherlands – On Friday 29th of November, the German Chief of Defence, General Eberhard Zorn, visited Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) to engage with the Headquarters’ Senior Leaders.

The aim of the visit was to create a better understanding and gain first-hand information of JFCBS’ mission structure and tasks.

Amongst others, topics discussed included: deterrence management, advanced operational planning, training and exercises, and NATO command and control structures and processes. Of particular importance were discussions on further development of the enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) on NATO’s north-eastern flank and the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan.

General Zorn expressed his gratitude towards JFC Brunssum’s contributions to the Alliance and the importance of NATO for Germany.

Also high on the agenda of the day were upcoming NATO Training and Exercise landscape, especially the outlook of the current Exercise Trident Jupiter, continued in March 2020 and the US-led exercise Defender 20, an allied demonstration of strategic deployment, reinforcement and logistic support with around 37000 soldiers being involved.

Summarising his visit, General Zorn highlighted the close cooperation between German Armed Forces and JFCBS, looking forward to further synchronization and coordination of joint deterrence efforts.
