Polish War Studies University Senior Officers Visit JFC Brunssum

Brunssum, the Netherlands – Tuesday 10 December, JFC Brunssum (JFCBS) was pleased to host the Polish War Studies University’s senior officers course.

The War Studies University (WSU) is the highest level academy for the Polish Armed Forces. It educates students and conducts scientific research focussed on the needs of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. The WSU also educates civilians in the field of national defence and prepares them to work in Parliament, national and local administration. The War Studies University is a vital element of the national educational system.

The trip to JFCBS was part of a broader visit programme designed to introduce students to the roles, responsibilities, and processes allocated to NATO HQs at all levels of command i.e. grand strategic, strategic, operational and tactical.

The Polish War Studies University offers a 10-month programme to prepare selected military leaders for future responsibilities involving strategic leadership. Upon completion, students are considered ready for appointment to senior positions in the Polish Armed Forces.

The delegation was led by the Vice-Rector for Military Affairs, Colonel Dariusz Majchrzak, Ph.D. His scientific interests are centred on the issues of national and international security, focusing his research effort in such areas as: identification of threats resulting in crisis situations and crises; analysis of processes and phenomena in the security environment regarding the need to use armed forces; theoretical and practical aspects of crisis management; and crisis management in an international perspective, mainly through the optic of the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union.

The delegation was supported by Lieutenant General (Rtd.) Boguslaw Samol, Ph.D., who is the course director at the Polish War Studies University. He is also a former commander of the Multinational Corps North-East (2012-2015).
