Sixth Northern Headquarters Conference Conducted at JFC Brunssum

Brunssum, the Netherlands – Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 November, JFC Brunssum (JFCBS) hosted representatives from 36 delegations for the Sixth Northern Headquarters Conference.  A wide-ranging group of delegates represented NATO member nations, partner nations and non-NATO security stakeholders.  The aim of the conference was to provide a forum to discuss the continued robustness of regional networks, further develop situational awareness, and enhance regional expertise with Allies and Partners within the JFCBS Area of Operations.

Amongst others, topics discussed included: deterrence management; advanced operational planning; training and exercises; NATO command and control structures/processes; and consultation, coordination, and de-confliction with Finland and Sweden.

In his concluding remarks, General Erhard Bühler (Commander JFCBS) commented: “This conference has further improved the relationship between NATO Commanders, Partner nation Commanders and key security stakeholders in Northern Europe; and this will help increase our efforts to further synchronize and coordinate joint deterrence efforts so that ‘Team Brunssum’ can be greater than the sum of its parts.”
