Task Force Latvia Commander Visits JFC Brunssum

2

Brunssum, the Netherlands – Tuesday, 15 October, Colonel Laforest, Commander Task Force Latvia, visited Headquarters JFC Brunssum. In the discussion, General Erhard Bühler, Commander JFC Brunssum, expressed his conviction that the enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) is essential to NATO’s overall deterrence effort and that Canada’s ‘Task Force Latvia’ provides excellent leadership and support.

As part of the Alliance’s eFP initiative, Canada has assumed a leadership role as one of four Framework Nations and is in command of a robust multinational NATO battle group in Latvia. Canada’s contribution of up to 540 personnel, vehicles, and equipment includes a headquarters element, a mechanized infantry company, and combat service support based at Camp Ādaži.

Colonel Laforest assumed command of Task Force Latvia this year. Its Headquarters provides national command and control for Canadian Armed Forces personnel deployed with the eFP Battle Group based in Latvia. As the Framework Nation it is also responsible for supporting Canadian and NATO military objectives, coordinating with Latvian military authorities and improving the integration of Canadian personnel and assets with NATO Allies in Latvia and the wider eFP region.
