Commander JFC Brunssum (JFCBS), visited NATO's Resolute Support mission (RSM)

Brunssum, the Netherlands – From 24-28 February, General Erhard Bühler, Commander JFC Brunssum (JFCBS), visited NATO’s Resolute Support mission (RSM) in Afghanistan in order to enhance his situational awareness and align the work of JFCBS and the RSM Headquarters, in Kabul. Whilst in-theatre he was provided insight to the current security situation and challenges.

Because the situation in Afghanistan remains complex, trips such as this are considered essential in order to synchronize NATO’s efforts in Afghanistan and, importantly, serve to ensure that the Commander and ‘Team Brunssum’ remain the subject matter experts that the Alliance expects them to be.

Generals Bühler and Miller (Commander RSM) took stock of the progress of the mission over the last few months and discussed the results achieved by the Coalition in training, advising and assisting the Afghan security institutions that recently enabled them to successfully protect their presidential elections. It is obvious that the coordination between all parts of the security forces has significantly improved.

The efforts of the international community are aimed at preventing the country from once again becoming a safe haven for terrorism and there is a growing portfolio of data to support the finding that the Resolute Support Mission is making a real difference and the investment over many years, designed to develop national security forces, is delivering a positive outcome.

NATO remains committed to supporting the Afghan security forces in their fight against international terrorism, and to create the conditions for peace.
