In Gdynia, close to Gdansk, Poland, General Vollmer met with the Polish Maritime Component Commander, Rear Admiral (UH) Kris Jaworski and the Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Tomasz Piotrowski.
Topics discussed included deterrence and defence, interoperability, current developments of the Polish Navy and its important function within NATO.
General Vollmer underlined the role of Poland, especially within the Baltic Sea Region, stating:
Poland is a cornerstone of defence in NATO's Northern flank
During the visit, General Vollmer also received further information regarding the Polish Navy’s offer to assume the Baltic Maritime Coordination Function (BMCF).
