Designated Chief of Staff SHAPE visits JFC Brunssum

BRUNSSUM, The Netherlands – This week, Admiral Joachim Rühle of the German Navy, the designated new Chief of Staff (COS) of Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), visited JFC Brunssum and its Commander, General Jörg Vollmer.

Prior to Admiral Rühle assuming his new post, the visit served as an introduction for the new COS SHAPE into the work of JFC Brunssum. It provided an opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of the Command and helped to deepen understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and authorities of this Headquarters.

Amongst other issues, General Vollmer gave his guest an overview of JFC Brunssum’s crisis management efforts in the Resolute Support Mission (RSM) in Afghanistan and JFCBS’s role in the delivery of Military Partnership and activities in the realm of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC).

Admiral Rühle is the first Naval Officer to hold the post of Chief of Staff SHAPE in the recent years; his last appointment was that of Vice Chief of Defence (VCHoD) of the German Armed Forces. He will assume his duties as COS SHAPE at the end of September.
