Brunssum, The Netherlands – Today, Commander Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS), General Jӧrg Vollmer, hosted a conference with multiple nations drawn from the JFCBS Area of Responsibility. The primary discussion topic focused on the emerging concept of the Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area (DDA). Representation, at Chief of Defence Staff level, was made by eight NATO member and two Partner nations.
The conference provided participants an opportunity to discuss national contributions to the key NATO tasks of deterrence and defence, both current and into the future. DDA brings together current military thinking as NATO faces a more unpredictable world and deals with the consequences of a changed security environment. This includes a more assertive Russia, cyber and hybrid threats, instability across the Middle East and North Africa, and a continued terrorist threat. In response, NATO has adapted again, responding to many challenges at the same time.
