Riga, Latvia - General Jörg Vollmer, Commander Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, visited the Latvian CHOD on 25th of June.
In Riga, the Commander met the Latvian Chief of Defence, Lieutenant General Leonids Kalnins. Topics discussed were mainly focused on NATO's enhanced Forward Presence commitment and the development of the Latvian Armed Forces.
Latvia is the host of the eFP battlegroup, located in Adazi. This unit is composed of the largest multinational contribution. Underlining the strong transatlantic bond, this Battlegroup is led by Canada with added elements from Albania, Czech Republic, Italy, Montenegro, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.
General Vollmer highlighted the approach of enhancing troops in the Baltics and Poland: "We all have to understand that deterrence and defence only work when we do it together. And we have to always be prepared to move as fast as necessary for any reinforcement."
In the Latvian Ministry of Defence, General Vollmer also met with the Undersecretary of State and Policy Director, Janis Karlsbergs, for a bilateral talk.
