General Erhard Bühler visits multinational NATO eFP Battlegroup in Latvia

Adazi - General Erhard Bühler, Commander Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, visited NATO troops in Latvia on 13th of February.

In Adazi, close to the Latvian capital, the General visited the newly implemented Multinational Division North and the eFP Battlegroup Latvia. The Canadian-led Battlegorup is composed of units from Albania, the Czech Republic, Italy, Montenegro, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.

All Allies do a great job by working and training together, proving their readiness and interoperability

"All Allies do a great job by working and training together, proving their readiness and interoperability,” General Bühler highlighted. He further underlined the solidarity and cohesion within the multinational Battlegroup.

In Riga, General Bühler also met the Latvian Chief of Defence, Lieutenant General Leonids Kalnins, for bilateral talks. Topics discussed were, amongst others, NATO's enhanced Forward Presence and the development of the Latvian Armed Forces.

With eFP, NATO has enhanced its presence in the eastern part of the Alliance, with four multinational Battlegroups in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. These Battlegroups, led by the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and the United States respectively, are multinational, and combat-ready, demonstrating the strength of the transatlantic bond. Their presence makes clear that an attack on one Ally will be considered an attack on the whole Alliance. NATO’s battle groups form part of the biggest reinforcement of NATO’s collective defence in a generation.
