Partner of utmost importance – General Jörg Vollmer visits Sweden

Stockholm, Sweden – On the 13th and 14th of October, General Jörg Vollmer, Commander Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS), visited the Partnership for Peace (PfP) nation Sweden.

During his meeting with the Swedish Defence Minister, Peter Hultqvist, among other issues General Vollmer discussed the concept of Deterrence and Defence, interoperability, active cooperation and building of further shared capabilities.

Furthermore, General Vollmer conferred with Lieutenant General Michael Claesson, Chief of Joint Operations in the Swedish Armed Forces. In the meeting, the Commander highlighted the deep relations between NATO and Sweden: “Sweden is a very important partner for NATO. We know that today’s security challenges can only be overcome when working together”, General Vollmer underlined.
NATO and Sweden actively cooperate in peace and security operations and have developed practical cooperation in many other areas, e.g. common exercises.

An important priority is to develop interoperable capabilities and maintain the ability of the Swedish Armed Forces to work with NATO and other partner countries in multinational peace support operations. For example, Sweden is an active partner and valued contributor to the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, and the global coalition to defeat ISIS.

This visit continues our close coordination and partnership regarding the region of Northern Europe. It is imperative to ensure effective synchronization during any potential future mission together.

Additionally, General Vollmer entered into a discussion on the security situation in the region with the German and British Military Attaches in Sweden.
