Dutch Memorial Service in Brunssum

Brunssum, the Netherlands

Despite limitations imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mayor of Brunssum (Ms Wilma van der Rijt) and Commander JFC Brunssum (General Jörg Vollmer) laid wreaths at the Brunssum Town Cemetery and British War Cemetery, Brunssum, today.

Normally the annual Dutch Remembrance Day brings together thousands of local people, in services at the St Gregorius Church and cemeteries, to pay tribute to those who sacrificed themselves so that, since that time, we have been able to enjoy peace in Europe. Today, sadly, that was not possible. Instead a short yet solemn and dignified service at both cemeteries was conducted to appropriately pay tribute to those whom we owe so much.
