Commander V US Corps Visits Brunssum

Brunssum, The Netherlands – On Thursday 3rd June, General Jörg Vollmer, Commander Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) welcomed Lieutenant General John Kolasheski, Commander V. US Corps.

We are strongest when we work together

During the visit General Kolasheski, the guest from Kentucky, USA, informed the leadership across JFCBS about V. Corps' mission and task as well as training and planning efforts. The General discussed the alignment with EUCOM and USAREUR chain of command as well as his intent to continue close co-ordination between JFCBS, Multinational Corps Northeast, and V Corps.

General Vollmer highlighted: "This visit continues our command’s close co-ordination and relationship to address NATO strategic challenges and provides further opportunities to link our combined effort to strengthen NATO's readiness and deterrence.”

General Vollmer emphasised the importance of continuing support to our fellow commands through continued staff co-ordination and sharing of experience: “We are strongest when we work together.”

The V Corps, located in Fort Knox, has a forward headquarters in Poznan, Poland. The corps was deactivated in 2013, but in February 2020, the United States Department of the Army announced the reactivation of the corps headquarters, with around 600 soldiers, of which approximately 200 will provide direct support at an operational command post in Europe. This forward headquarters will conduct operational planning, mission command and oversight of the rotational forces in Europe, and work alongside allies and partners to build readiness and enhance interoperability.
