Estonian Commander of Defence Forces visits Brunssum

Brunssum, The Netherlands – On Wednesday 3rd March General Vollmer, Commander Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS), welcomed the Estonian Commander of Defence Forces, Major General Martin Herem.

Estonia continues to be a strong and committed nation in respect of defence investment and contributions to NATO

This visit solidifies the importance of continued dialogue and co-operation with all NATO members, particularly those within the JFCBS area of responsibility. During the morning discussions took place on a variety of subjects including; NATO Defence Planning, peacetime operations and exercises, Estonian support to the Resolute Support Mission and the role of the Enhanced Forward Presence within Estonia as a host nation.

Commander JFCBS stated; ‘Estonia continues to be a strong and committed nation in respect of defence investment and contributions to NATO. It is of great importance to me that our solid relationship continues long into the future.’

As part of his visit Major General Herem also visited the Joint Logistic Support Group Brunssum Headquarters (JLSGBS HQ).  The visit came at a very important time for this new International Military Headquarters just one month before they are due to declare that they have reached initial operating capability (IOC).  This first, high profile visit marks an important milestone in building the relationships with one of the key NATO countries that JLSGBS HQ will need to work with in the future as it prepares for its responsibilities in support of NATO Reaction Force (NRF) 22

Towards the end of his visit, Major General Herem took the opportunity to meet with Estonian members working within JFBCS in order to thank them for their ongoing contribution to the HQ and NATO as a whole.
