Northern Europe Operational Update Weeks 45/46 2021

SZCZECIN, Poland - Friday 19 November, Lieutenant General Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart succeeded Lieutenant General Sławomir Wojciechowski as Commander of Multinational Corps Northeast.

In concluding his remarks, General von Sandrart stated: "I am dedicated to build upon this firm foundation passed to me by my predecessor & to continue contributing to Baltic security via a capable, adaptable and responsive MNCNE."

Commander Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, General Jörg Vollmer, presided over the ceremony on behalf of SACEUR.

During his years as Commander, General Wojciechowski led more than 8.000 soldiers on the north-eastern flank of the Alliance for a total of for 1,165 days.

BYDGOSZCZ, Poland – A Strategic Communications team from MNCNE visited the Polish Central Psychological Operations Group and the Doctrine and Training Centre of the Polish Armed Forces, with the objective of exchanging experiences and setting the course for future cooperation.

ADAZI, Latvia – NATO's enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battlegroup Latvia hosted Exercise BOLD AXE, in which UK and French personnel from eFP Battlegroup Estonia took part alongside troops from Latvia. The 7-day exercise was an opportunity for the Latvian eFP to sustain operational readiness whilst, concurrently, enhancing interoperability amongst Allies.

Also at Camp Adazi was Exercise BLAZING LEOPARD took place; this was a Live Fire Exercise (LFX) organized by the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup Latvia, in which eFP Battlegroup Lithuania also took part. This being an LFX, soldiers used live ammunition.

During the exercise, elements of the Lithuanian eFP took part in an International Sniper Competition.
