NRF 22: GENERAL VOLLMER VISITS THE RAPID REACTION CORPS FRANCE

Lille, France - General Vollmer, Commander Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS), visited the Rapid Reaction Corps France (RRC-FR) in Lille, France, 23 to 24 march to be briefed on the preparation of the HQs for the NATO Response Force 2022 (NRF 22).

I am very impressed by the great work, the commitment and the progress of RRC-FRA in its preparation as LCC for NRF 22 under the responsibility of JFCBS

From January 2022 JFCBS will be the leading Headquarters for the NATO Response Force (NRF) with RRC-FR as Land Component Command (LCC). The RRC-FR is a multinational Headquarters with France as a framework nation that meets all NATO standards. With around 430 soldiers from 14 allied nations, the RRC-FR is the highest deployable corps-level Headquarters within the French Land Forces.

During his visit General Vollmer emphasised the importance of readiness for NATO forces in collective defence and he highlighted the achievement of RRC-FR at this stage:

‘I am very impressed by the great work, the commitment and the progress of RRC-FRA in its preparation as LCC for NRF 22 under the responsibility of JFCBS,’ said General Vollmer. ‘We are training and exercising together, ready to deploy the NRF 22 at any time to conduct the full range of the Alliance’s operations and missions. NATO can count on us.’

The Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) is also established on a rotational basis and throughout 2022 it will be led by French-German Brigade. The VJTF will be composed of a land brigade - supported by air, sea and Special Forces - and is capable of deploying at very short notice when the sovereignty of any member of the Alliance is under threat.

The NRF was established in 2002 to provide the Alliance with an immediate and credible response capability for the range of military operations. Though it has evolved over the past 19 years, readiness remains at its core. The decision to use the NRF requires political consensus taken on a case-by-case basis by the North Atlantic Council.
