OPERATIONAL UPDATE WEEK 22

Brunssum, The Netherlands – EXERCISE SPRING STORM KICKS OFF IN ESTONIA

On 17 May, the large-scale exercise Spring Storm (Kevadtorm) started. The annual event is led by Estonia and aims to test the integration between NATO troops and the Estonian Defence Forces (EDF), strengthening their interoperability and responsiveness. The exercise will conclude on 5 June.

EXERCISE IRON WOLF CONCLUDES IN LITHUANIA

The 12-day certification exercise Iron Wolf, conducted by the Lithuanian Armed Forces, ended on 30 May. The enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup Lithuania also participated in this multinational exercise and demonstrated its readiness. With units from the US Army and the British Army, exercise Iron Wolf 2021-1 showed the strength of the NATO bond with strong, combat-ready forces.

EXERCISE SUMMER SHIELD WRAPS UP IN LATVIA

From 17 to 28 May, NATO Allies participated in Summer Shield, a multinational exercise in Latvia. The training aimed to enhance joint capabilities in conducting combat operations, including air and ground coordination. Exercise Summer Shield served as an important opportunity to show the strength and unity of the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as the cooperation of the eFP BG Latvia with the soldiers of the Latvian Mechanized Brigade in the international arena. The conducted exercise proved that the National Armed Forces of the Republic of Latvia, together with its Allies, can face any possible threat in the region of the Baltic States.
