Chair of NATO Military Medical Committee visits JFCBS

Brunssum, The Netherlands – On Wednesday 24 August, the Chair of the Committee of the Chiefs of Military Medical Services in NATO (COMEDS) visited Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS). As well as being the Chair of COMEDS, Major General Tim Hodgetts is also the Surgeon General of the United Kingdom – the UK's most senior military medical officer.

Maj Gen Hodgetts' visit started with an office call with Deputy Commander JFCBS, General Lanchares. He then received comprehensive briefs on JFCBS' latest medical planning, and the ways in which national medical capabilities could support NATO operations and contingency planning.

COMEDS is a subcommittee of the NATO Military Committee (MC), and meets several times a year to provide advice to the MC on medical matters affecting NATO. As well as this, it contributes to preserving and maintaining the health and fighting strength of military forces at home and on deployment. Its membership includes all NATO military medical chiefs and representatives of other NATO organisations.

Maj Gen Hodgetts was elected Chair of COMEDS in December 2021 and will hold the post for a period of three years.
