COMMANDER JFC BRUNSSUM ANNUAL STAFF ADDRESS

Brunssum, The Netherlands – On 14th December, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) took the opportunity to address his staff prior to the winter holidays.

The Commander expressed his appreciation for the JFCBS team’s dedication, and the steadfast support of their families through a challenging year in 2022.

The constant commitment and tireless devotion of all staff members are a credit to your Nations, and remain a crucial element for the achievement of our result,” General Miglietta said. “Your efforts, enthusiasm and positive attitude are key for the accomplishment of our tasks, with the final objective to offer a viable opportunity for a brighter future, granting security for NATO.

General Miglietta added that 2022 took an unexpected turn when Russia invaded Ukraine, one that increased operational tempo and brought continuous change throughout the year.

“When the conflict started last February, few observers imagined that the war would still be raging today,” said General Miglietta. “We need to stand united to deter and assure, and ultimately defend and fight, wherever and whenever needed.”

So far, the deterrent effect of Article V has kept the Ukraine conflict from spilling over into the west, he said.

“Today, the credibility of Article V, in terms of collective defence, is not at risk,” General Miglietta commented. “Thus far, the very existence of Article V, coupled with a strong NATO presence, has offered sufficient deterrence and a renewed positive attitude towards the fundamentals of the Alliance.”

The Commander added that some crucial changes in NATO’s structure and approach are in the works for the upcoming year, which will bring new core tasks and require maximum team effort throughout 2023.

“Changes are part of life and it’s up to us to adapt to stay relevant,” General Miglietta said. “JFC Brunssum will continue to adapt and evolve as appropriate to meet the demands of a continuously evolving security environment, aiming at serving a stronger Alliance.”

The General concluded by passing his best wishes to everyone for the holiday season.

“I wish you Merry Christmas, a happy holiday season and a prosperous and healthy New Year to you and your families. May this time of the year be truly peaceful and enjoyable to all of us. Stay safe and, please, think about our friends in Ukraine and include them in your prayers and good wishes too.” General Miglietta said.
