Brunssum, The Netherlands – Last week, General Miglietta - Commander Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) - paid a two-day visit to the German Ministry of Defence, in Berlin.
The purpose of the trip was: to exchange views on current Alliance military vigilance activities in Northern Europe; and to discuss synchronisation of operational plans, national contributions and upcoming exercises.
The Commander met with General Eberhard Zorn, the German Chief of Defence, Lieutenant General Gunter Schneider, Director General for Security and Defence Policy, as well as other key stakeholders in the Ministry of Defence.
During discussion, General Miglietta took the opportunity to thank General Zorn for the deployment of German soldiers to Lithuania on September 4th, as part of NATO’s increased presence on the Alliance’s eastern flank. The unit consists of circa 100 personnel and includes equipment enabling efficient command and control, communications and logistics. As pledged at the Madrid Summit in June, the Brigade’s command element will remain permanently in the Baltic nation, whilst combat units will deploy to the region, on a rotational basis, to participate in military exercises.
Note:
Germany is leading a Multinational Battlegroup Lithuania, as a Framework nation, which includes more than 1500 soldiers from Belgium, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Norway. The Battlegroup coordinates its activities with the “Iron Wolf” Brigade, led by the Lithuanian army, consisting of more than 3000 Lithuanian soldiers.
