Brunssum, The Netherlands – On Thursday 14 July, Commander Multinational Corps Northeast (MNCNE), Lieutenant General Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart, German Army, visited Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS).
The purpose of the visit was to exchange views with regard to the current situation on the eastern flank of the Alliance, where MNCNE is responsible for four of NATO's eight multinational battlegroups on behalf of COM JFCBS, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta.
This visit follows General Miglietta's trip to the Baltic States last week, where he had discussions with Chiefs of Defence and NATO forces in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. It presented both an opportunity to discuss more tactical issues and to maintain the already strong relationship between the two headquarters, which is vital to the ongoing success of NATO's northern battlegroups.
MNCNE's headquarters are located in the city of Szczecin, Poland. They command the multinational battlegroups located in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, as well as the NATO Force Integration Units (NFIUs) established on a permanent basis in the region in order to facilitate a rapid deployment of NATO forces if required.
The Corps' headquarters and its subordinate units train continuously for defensive operations in order to deter potential adversaries and, if necessary, defend the territory and sovereignty of Allies on NATO's eastern flank.
