HQ JFCBS is one of the three operational military Headquarters in NATO together with JFCs Naples and Norfolk. It is also notable that, out of NATO's four most senior military Headquarters it is the only one commanded by a European General.

In his departing speech, General Vollmer described that to be a successful leader one must trust and have confidence in you. He thanked all those who trusted him and for their confidence during his period as Commanding General of HQ JFCBS.

General Wolters stated that NATO is currently dealing with a gigantic strategic challenge and thanked General Vollmer for his outstanding leadership.

The General also received a parting gift from the Mayor of Brunssum, Wilma van der Rijt, in recognition of the close partnership JFCBS has with the local community.

General Miglietta, the new Commander JFCBS, underlined the complexity of the challenges we face today but made clear that the Alliance's will and determination to deter and to defend our values is stronger than ever before.
