Leaders of the future: Manfred Wörner Seminar returns to JFC Brunssum

Brunssum, The Netherlands – Recently, Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) hosted the Manfred Wörner Seminar for the second time this year.

We live in a world which is safer than before, but history shows that we cannot take security for granted

The seminar is named after the accomplished German politician who served as both the Minister of Defence of West Germany (1982-1988) and then as the seventh Secretary General of NATO (1988-1994).

Started in 1982, twice a year the seminar brings together young executives from across Europe and North America to facilitate dialogue between nations whilst examining German and European security topics. The seminar is open to professionals between the ages of 25 and 35 who work in the fields of science, politics or trade & industry.

Among a busy schedule of visits, the seminar delegates visited JFCBS to learn about NATO and its importance to European security policy.

Delegates first received an introduction by Deputy Commander JFCBS, Lieutenant General Luis Lanchares, ahead of a series of briefings about the role of the headquarters. The day ended with a reception hosted by JFCBS, after which delegates continued on to their next destination.

Speaking in his introduction, Gen Lanchares underlined the importance of NATO, saying, “We live in a world which is safer than before, but history shows that we cannot take security for granted.”
