Northern Europe Operational Update Weeks 34 / 35 2022

In Lithuania, Exercise Amber Mist 22 brought together military cyber operators from NATO countries, Partnership for Peace countries, and from the European Union. Also taking part were civilian experts from the private sector and academia. From 19th to 26th August, they trained on the latest techniques to protect computer networks, and efficiently to secure infrastructure across the Alliance._nato4

In Czech Republic, the routine Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) Exercise Ample Strike 22 is currently underway, involving about 900 troops from Czech Republic and six other NATO countries. Until mid-September, participants will conduct intense training on how to coordinate integrated air support for troops on the ground. The Czech Republic has organised the Ample Strike exercise series since 2014, enabling high quality live-fly and live-fire training opportunities for NATO JTACs, in a demonstration of Allied cooperation, interoperability and capabilities.

Over Romania, the US Air Force B-52s came under NATO command and control for the first time ever during a training mission. Since 18th August, a new rotation of the Bomber Task Force Europe has been supporting NATO’s missions on its Eastern flank, demonstrating Allies’ commitment to the principles of collective defense, transatlantic unity, and interoperability.
