Slovakian Ambassador and National Military Representative Visit JFC Brunssum

Brunssum, The Netherlands – On Friday 23 September, Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) hosted a visit of two senior Slovakian dignitaries on the occasion of Slovak Armed Forces Day.

The Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, His Excellency Mr Juraj Macháč; and the Slovak National Military Representative to SHAPE, Major General Miroslav Lorinc, were received by Deputy Commander JFCBS, Lieutenant General Luis Lanchares.

Visiting dignitaries took part in a meeting with Slovak members of JFCBS staff before attending a reception in honour of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic, to which senior leaders of JFCBS were also invited.

Slovakia became a NATO member in 1990 and is, today, a vital Ally on NATO’s Eastern Flank. The country currently hosts a multinational NATO Battlegroup and several NATO-led Air and Missile Defence (AMD) units, which have been deployed there since Russia’s illegal invasion of neighbouring Ukraine.

Since the invasion, Slovakia has played host to hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians fleeing the conflict whilst Slovakian Armed Forces continue to play a key role in maintaining regional security.
