Visit of UK Chief of Joint Operations, Lt Gen Charlie Stickland

Brunssum, The Netherlands – Lieutenant General Charlie Stickland, UK Commander Joint Operations (CJO), visited JFC Brunssum (JFCBS) on Friday the 4th of February. Having assumed the role of CJO in November last year, Lt Gen Stickland's visit comes as part of a tour of NATO and US headquarters in Europe.

CJO is the head of the UK's Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ), which is the organisation that plans and controls all UK overseas military operations. Whilst not part of the NATO Command Structure, it has responsibility for UK personnel who may be deployed on NATO missions, such as the UK troops deployed to Estonia as part of NATO's enhanced Forward Presence (eFP).

Lt Gen Stickland met with Commander JFCBS, General Jörg Vollmer, to discuss the strategic context of NATO operations, and the ways in which NATO is adapting to meet the threats of today.

Speaking during the visit, General Vollmer highlighted the excellent contribution made by the British military to all NATO commitments.

JFC Brunssum Commander also stressed the importance of constantly maintaining direct contacts and coordination during Joint Operations to face common challenges, to boost interoperability and increase operational capabilities.
