BEL and NLD Advanced Command and Staff Course visits JFC Brunssum

Brunssum, The Netherlands – On 12th January, Joint Force Command Brunssum welcomed 63 students from eight nations (BEL, CAN, FRA, GER, LUX, NDL, NOR, USA) and staff of the BEL and NLD Defence College, led by Colonel Quentin Van Kerckhoven.

The visit was part of the curriculum of the College’s Advanced Staff Course, and its aim was to familiarise students with the role, responsibilities, processes, and current challenges of an operational-level NATO military headquarters. Students received in-depth lectures on functional areas contributing to the Operational Planning Process, before being given the opportunity to discuss military planning issues in more detail.

The Advanced Staff Course is designed to prepare selected officers to work in complex joint and multinational environments. As well as JFC Brunssum, students visit a number of different NATO HQs and Commands across Europe to prepare them for this task.
