Brunssum, The Netherlands - General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFC Brunssum), travelled to Poland to visit NATO service members in a series of locations along the eastern flank of the Alliance, 13th and 14th March, 2023.
We need to remain vigilant and strong in our deterrence posture.
He started his tour in Elblag, at the headquarters of Multinational Division North-East (MND-NE), the closest NATO headquarters to Russian territory.
After a warm welcome from Major General Zenon Bryusko, MND-NE Commander, Gen. Miglietta addressed a gathering of division officers where he stressed the importance of MND-NE’s mission. Because Poland and the Baltic states are now the closest NATO countries to potential enemy territory, they require even more support from the Allies than in the past.
"We need to remain vigilant and strong in our deterrence posture,” said Gen Miglietta.
The general continued, adding that hosilities in Ukraine also pose a threat to the Alliance, which means that NATO must return to its roots: deterrence and defence. NATO will stand by its Eastern European allies under all circumstances, Gen. Miglietta said, a task particularly close to home for the men and women of MND-NE.
General Miglietta’s next stop was in Gizycko, where he visited the soldiers of the 15th Mechanised Brigade.
“Stand strong, stand united and remain vigilant, I’m counting on you,” General Miglietta said to an assembled crowd from the brigade. In the presence of the Mechanised Brigade’s commander, Brigadier General Pjotr Fajowski, Commander JFC Brunssum assured the gathered soldiers that NATO will support them in their challenging mission. He thanked the 15th for their dedication, and for their service to NATO and their homeland.
General Miglietta’s last stop was with the multinational enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup Poland, whom he visited in a training area in the northeastern area of Bemowo Piskie. He reminded Battlegroup personnel what NATO stands for, and what their enhanced Forward Presence means to the Alliance.
“Our message must be clear and loud; we are here, and we will defend our way of living.” he said. “We will not tolerate anybody to threaten or suppress it, here in the heart of our beloved Europe.”
