General Miglietta visits the NATO Multinational Battle Group Slovakia

Brunssum, The Netherlands – General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Commander Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS), visited NATO’s Multinational Battlegroup Slovakia, stationed in Lešť, 230 km east of Bratislava.

I would like to thank every one of you for your commitment and hard work. You are in Slovakia to help deter any sort of aggression

After a briefing by the Commander of the Multinational Battlegroup, Colonel Karel Navrátil of the Czech Army, General Miglietta addressed the soldiers, coming from several NATO nations, to express his appreciation for their professionalism and dedication.

“I would like to thank every one of you for your commitment and hard work. You are in Slovakia to help deter any sort of aggression. Together, you send a clear message that NATO will defend every inch of Slovakia and every inch of Allied territory”, said the General.

During the visit, General Miglietta underlined the importance of Slovakia and its Armed Forces for NATO’s defence posture at the eastern flank of the Alliance. In addition to hosting one of NATO’s new Multinational Battlegroups and contributing troops to NATO’s Battlegroup in Latvia, Slovakia plays its role in supporting Ukraine in response to Russia’s brutal and illegal war. The country provides military and humanitarian aid and hosts many Ukrainian refugees seeking shelter from the conflict.

Slovakia also is an important and active contributor to the NATO training system. In cooperation with NATO and non-NATO members, in 2023 alone it will host five major NATO exercises, such as the recent Exercise ‘Slovak Shield’, which took place in March.
