Brunssum, The Netherlands – General Luigi Guglielmo Miglietta, Commander, Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS), hosted the Italian Permanent Representative to the North Atlantic Council, Ambassador Marco Peronaci, 17th March, 2023.
Dialogue between the political and military levels is crucial for us to meet our mutual goals together.
Ambassador Peronaci began the visit by meeting with the Commander and members of the JFCBS Command Group, where the floor was open for the group to discuss a variety of topics.
He then participated in a round table conversation attended by JFCBS senior leaders, where he was briefed about the history of the Headquarters (HQ), and how it has evolved as a unit over the decades. Briefers emphasised that 2023 is JFCBS’ 70th Anniversary since its founding in 1953.
Ambassador Peronaci was also briefed about the roles and responsibilities of JFCBS HQ within the Alliance, its ongoing Deterrence and Defence posture, the Commander’s long-term vision and priorities, and especially on the continuing development of operational plans. He also received an overview of the Italian contingent represented at the HQ and their many contributions to JFCBS operations.
Ambassador Peronaci showed particular interest in operations, preparation, and exercises, focussing on the long-term sustainment of troops.
At the conclusion of the visit, General Miglietta thanked the Italian Permanent Representative for taking his valuable time to visit JFCBS, underlining that “dialogue between the political and military levels is crucial for us to meet our mutual goals together.”
