The opening of the event and a remembrance service, including a minute of silence and wreath laying, took place at Lindeplein, Brunssum. After this a memorial to ‘all those who serve in the cause of peace, anywhere in the world’ was unveiled by the attending VIPs.
The finale of the day was a parade, led by the Parade Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Bart Bams, including platoons of veterans and serving personnel, marching bands and a number of historic military vehicles making their way through the center of Brunssum, with the review taken by General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Commander JFC Brunssum.
During the remembrance service, wreathes were laid by Wilma van der Rijt, Mayor of Brunssum; Brunssum Veterans Committee; General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Commander JFC Brunssum, together with Chief Petty Officer 1st Class, Stanley Ryan, JFC Brunssum Command Senior Enlisted Leader; Brigadier General Ronald Rietbergen, NLD Senior National Officer JFCBS together with Warrant Officer 1 Jan Erpeka, NLD Command Senior Enlisted Leader.
The unveiling of the Veterans Monument was led by Mr. Lust, chairman of the Brunssum Veterans Committee; with the unveiling conducted by Wilma van der Rijt, Mayor of Brunssum, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Alderman Janssen, Brigadier General Ronald Rietbergen and Major Marco Kroon, holder of the highest NLD military honour – the Militaire Willems Orde.
