NATO Cyber Defence Centre instructors teach cyberspace course at JFC Brunssum

Brunssum, The Netherlands – Headquarters Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFC Brunssum) hosted 18 students from 11 NATO nations for the “Integration of Cyberspace Considerations into Operations Planning” (ICCOP) course, from 30 January until 03 February.

The course was led by instructors from the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCD COE), headquartered in Tallin, Estonia.

The objective of the course was to improve students’ skills in the cyber realm of the operational planning process, and to successfully integrate those skills into the planning of military exercises and operations.

Under the leadership of Major Dobrin Mahlyanov, instructors from CCD COE provided a comprehensive, five-day curriculum that focused on ways cyberspace can be utilized in the risk management cycle, and the recognition aspects of deterrence in the cyberspace domain.

NOTE:

The NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) was established upon the initiative of Estonia together with six other nations – Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia and Spain – on 14 May 2008. The North-Atlantic Council decided to award full accreditation and International Military Organisation status to the Centre the same year in October.

As of January 2018, CCDCOE is responsible for identifying and coordinating education and training solutions in cyber defence for all NATO bodies across the Alliance. NATO Allied Command Transformation has provided CCDCOE with an unconditional quality assurance accreditation for its contribution to high-quality NATO Education and Training.
