Brunssum, The Netherlands – General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Commander of the Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS), visited the headquarters of the Italian Maritime Forces HQ and the Multi-National Maritime South HQ of the Italian Navy Second Division.
After the military honours, General Miglietta met the staff and the General Staff assigned to the Second Naval Division of Taranto, deepening the ties of collaboration and cooperation between the two institutions.
During the visit, which placed particular emphasis on cooperation and security in the enlarged Mediterranean region, General Miglietta was briefed on the battle rhythm of the Italian HQs that operate under the command of Admiral Giacinto Sciandra. Well-developed interoperability and synergy between the Italian forces and their NATO counterparts for the support of national interests, and those of the Atlantic Alliance, was highlighted.
General Miglietta also had the opportunity to board the “Garibaldi” aircraft carrier, the Maritime Component Commanders’ command platform at sea, which the Italian Navy will make available to allies in the event of activation of the NATO Response Force, throughout 2024.
The General’s programme also included a short visit to the Submarine “Venuti”, where the challenges of underwater warfare quickly became transparent.
The trip ended with expressions of mutual gratitude and with the confirmation of the continuous commitment to deepening the cooperation between the Italian Navy and NATO, in order to guarantee security and stability in the enlarged Mediterranean region.
