SHAPE Chief of Staff visits JFC Brunssum

Brunssum, The Netherlands – On 31st October, Admiral Joachim Rühle, Chief of Staff of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), visited the Headquarters of NATO Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) and Headquarters Joint Logistics Support Group Brunssum (HQ JLSGBS).

After a warm welcome by the Commander of JFC Brunssum, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Admiral Rühle was briefed on the ongoing transformation of JFCBS into a modern and agile operational-level Headquarters ready to conduct multi-domain operations.

The operational challenges JFCBS faces, particularly in light of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and the evolving security situation at NATO’s Eastern Flank, were also discussed.

Admiral Rühle and General Miglietta then attended an opening ceremony for the newly completed HQ JLSGBS building.

During the ceremony, COS SHAPE, the Commander of JLSGBS, Czech Brigadier General David Schnábel and the Mayor of Brunssum, Wilma van der Rijt, simultaneously cut the ribbon and unveiled a commemorative plaque
to open the new JLSGBS HQ building. A guided tour of the new building followed, highlighting its sustainability and environmentally friendly features. A reception in the presence of the Czech army band, “The Ondráš Military art ensemble” closed the ceremony.

Concluding the visit, General Miglietta thanked Admiral Rühle and emphasised the significance of close links between SHAPE and HQ JFCBS.
