Brunssum, The Netherlands – On 13th July 2023, the Chief of Joint Operations of the Spanish Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Francisco Braco Carbó, Spanish Air Force, paid a visit to Headquarters Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS).
We are deeply grateful for the significant increase of the Spanish contributions to our Multinational Battlegroup in Latvia and the Baltic Air Policing.
The Joint Operations Command of the Spanish Armed Forces is the body responsible for the operational planning, conduct and monitoring of military operations, both national and multinational, when Spain takes the lead. It is also responsible for directing the sustainment of non-permanent military operations.
After being welcomed by Commander JFC Brunssum, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Lt Gen Braco Carbó met with senior staff of the Headquarters. He received briefings on the tasks and responsibilities of JFC Brunssum, and an assessment of the security situation in JFC Brunssum’s area of responsibility, with special focus on NATO’s Eastern Flank in the light of the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine.
During the discussion, the Commander thanked the Kingdom of Spain for the contribution to both the Headquarters JFC Brunssum staff – most prominently in the person of the Deputy Commander, Lieutenant General Luis Lanchares from the Spanish Army – and the Spanish engagement in NATO deployments and activities, in particular on the Alliance’ Eastern Flank:
“We are deeply grateful for the significant increase of the Spanish contributions to our Multinational Battlegroup in Latvia and the Baltic Air Policing. Also, we thank you for offering a Corps Headquarters for the southern region of our Joint Operational Area Centre, covering the Multinational Battlegroups in Slovakia and Hungary”, General Miglietta pointed out. He also mentioned the Spanish support in securing the recent NATO Summit in Vilnius, where Spain provided an Air Defence System.
