Brunssum, The Netherlands – Headquarters Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFC Brunssum) hosted the Deputy Commander of U.S. European Command (US EUCOM), Lieutenant General Steven L. Basham, U.S. Air Force, 13th March, 2023.
As the deputy commander for U.S. European Command, Lt Gen Basham is responsible for establishing and overseeing a warfighting headquarters that conducts a full range of multi-domain operations in coordination with allies and partners to support NATO, enable global operations, and counter trans-national threats in order to defend the U.S. homeland forward and fortify Euro-Atlantic security.
JFC Brunssum’s Deputy Commander (DCOM), Lieutenant General Luis Lanchares and Chief of Staff (COS), Lieutenant General Krzysztof Król, welcomed Lt Gen Basham and, during an office call, took the opportunity to underline the close cooperation JFC Brunssum has developed with U.S. European Command.
Lt Gen Basham then participated in a round-table discussion with the DCOM, the COS and senior members of JFC Brunssum staff. He was briefed on a broad range of topics the Headquarters is dealing with, and in particular, on the challenges JFC Brunssum faces in the light of Russia’s brutal war on Ukraine. Since NATO’s Eastern Flank is largely part of JFC Brunssum’s area of responsibility, the endeavours to support NATO Allies on that flank to deter any aggression towards NATO members and to prepare to defend NATO territory is the focus of Headquarters JFC Brunssum’s present activities.
U.S. European Command is based in Stuttgart, Germany, and spans Europe, portions of Asia and the Middle East, and the Arctic and Atlantic oceans. The command is comprised of more than 64,000 military personnel, and is responsible for U.S. defence operations and relations with NATO and 50 countries.
