20th Limburg Veterans Day Honors the Brave

Brunssum, The Netherlands – Saturday, June 15, 2024, marked the 20th Limburg Veterans Day, hosted by the town of Roermond, Limburg, home to approximately 5,500 veterans. This special event to honour the courageous men and women who have earned the status of ‘veteran’ for the risks they took to ensure our peace.
The bond between the veterans of Limburg and the NATO Allies today is a testament to the shared commitment to peace and security that future generations can emulate

The day began with a remembrance ceremony at the National Remembrance Park, Roermond with the Governor of Limburg, Emile Roemer, and the Mayor of Roermond, Yolanda Hoogtanders, addressed the veterans, expressing their gratitude and admiration for their service.

Major General Randolph Staudenraus, Deputy Chief of Staff Operations at Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, laid a wreath at the monument at the National Remembrance Park. Reflecting on the day's significance, Major General Staudenraus remarked, "The bond between the veterans of Limburg and the NATO Allies today is a testament to the shared commitment to peace and security that future generations can emulate."

In the afternoon, veterans of all ages paraded through the centre of Roermond, accompanied by stirring military music. The streets were lined with cheering spectators who came out to show their support and appreciation. The parade featured a diverse group of veterans, showcasing the broad spectrum of service across different conflicts and eras.

Following the parade, a social event provided an opportunity for veterans and their families to reconnect and share their experiences, stories of camaraderie and bravery were exchanged, and the event fostered a sense of community among the attendees.
