Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum Welcomes New Command Senior Enlisted Leader

Brunssum, The Netherlands – On Friday, July 5, Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) witnessed a significant transition in its leadership. In a formal ceremony, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, Commander JFCBS, presided over the handover-takeover of the Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) role from Chief Petty Officer First Class Stanley Ryan to Chief Warrant Officer Chris Thomassin.

Our mission at JFCBS is vital, and with strong leadership, we will continue to ensure the security and stability of our Euro-Atlantic region

Chief Petty Officer First Class Ryan's tenure was marked by remarkable progress and dedication. Reflecting on his service, Ryan emphasized the critical role of JFCBS in NATO's defense and deterrence efforts. "I saw first-hand alongside the Commander during many Battlefield Circulations the importance of the work we do in enabling our Multinational Battlegroups, our naval Standing Maritime Groups, and our Air Policing missions to do the hard work they must be called upon to do. Our coordination and synchronization efforts within our Area of Responsibility have been pivotal," he stated.

In Ryan's time, JFCBS has made significant strides towards becoming a forward-leaning Joint all-domain headquarters. The shift towards a Joint Warfighting HQ concept, advancements in digitization, and synchronization of Training and Exercise programs and vigilance activities have all contributed to making the headquarters more resilient, more effective and technologically advanced.

Ryan also highlighted his efforts to empower Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and Junior Officers within JFCBS. "I have planted the seeds of NCO and Junior Officer empowerment within our HQ, in line with SHAPE’s Directive. A fully empowered, appreciated, and recognized NCO and Jr Officer Corps will be a force multiplier in any organization."

n his closing remarks, Ryan expressed gratitude towards the Commander, the Senior JFCBS leadership, the dedicated civilian staff, his Senior NCO council, and all the hardworking personnel at JFCBS.

Chief Warrant Officer Chris Thomassin, the incoming CSEL, outlined his focus areas for his tenure. He emphasized force readiness, fostering warfighting spirit and resiliency, maintaining command cohesion and morale, and continuing the empowerment and professional development of NCOs. Thomassin's vision is to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessor and drive JFCBS towards even greater achievements.

General Miglietta praised both leaders, saying, "The dedication and leadership shown by Chief Petty Officer First Class Ryan have been exemplary, and I am confident that Chief Warrant Officer Thomassin will continue this legacy of excellence. Our mission at JFCBS is vital, and with strong leadership, we will continue to ensure the security and stability of our Euro-Atlantic region."
