BRUNSSUM, The Netherlands – NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Ms. Marie-Doha Besancenot, visited the Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) on 29th of November 2024.
To achieve information superiority and secure a strategic advantage on the battlefield, flexibility and adaptability are more critical than ever
General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, JFCBS Commander, personally welcomed Ms. Marie-Doha Besancenot. After that, she received a historical overview of the command and engaged in a productive discussion with General Miglietta about
the current and future communication challenges faced by NATO. Ms. Marie-Doha Besancenot also met Lieutenant General Jean-Pierre Perrin, JFCBS Chief of Staff.
“In today’s world, marked by the pervasive presence of disinformation and misinformation, effective communication plays an indispensable role,” stated General Miglietta. “To achieve information superiority and secure a strategic advantage on the battlefield, flexibility and adaptability are more critical than ever.”
Ms. Marie-Doha Besancenot then met with the JFCBS Communication Division team, including its Director, Colonel Kevin Kane, and Branch Heads. She received a comprehensive briefing on the strategic aspects of JFCBS’s communications operations. This included insights into Information Environment Assessment capabilities, planning methodologies, and the execution of communication strategies, all geared toward achieving NATO’s strategic objectives.
“Strategic Communications is fully recognized as a security and defense issue across the Alliance, and this means NATO is at the center of the game. Contributing to the deterrence posture is a shared priority for military and civilian communicators alike.” – said Ms. Marie-Doha Besancenot. “The Steadfast Defender 2024 exercise, coordinated in part by JFCBS, was a good opportunity for us to align messaging between the strategic and the tactical, and between political and military levels.”
Additionally, discussions moved to how JFC Brunssum aligns its efforts with NATO’s Directions & Guidance. This exchange served as a valuable platform for sharing experiences, discussing best practices, and exploring future initiatives to meet common goals effectively.
The visit underscored the importance of coordinated communication efforts within NATO, particularly in addressing the evolving challenges of modern information environments.
