Brunssum, The Netherlands: On 26 September 2024, Commander JFC Brunssum, General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta, attended the ceremonies for the 25th Anniversary of Multinational Corps Northeast (MNCNE) in Szczecin, Poland. He extended congratulations to Lieutenant General Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart, Commander of Multinational Corps Northeast, and all those who have served in this distinguished Corps over the past quarter of a century.
Today, Multinational Corps Northeast continues to play a vital role in the defence and security of the Alliance
Multinational Corps Northeast has a proud history, rooted in the defence of the Baltic Approaches during the Cold War. Established in 1999, it has transformed itself from Allied Land Forces Schleswig-Holstein and Jutland into the Headquarters it is today, located in Szczecin – a symbol of NATO’s commitment to collective defence on the Eastern Flank. From its early days as a tri-national command comprising Denmark, Germany, and Poland, over the past 25 years the Corps has expanded its multinational composition, integrating personnel from across the Alliance, including nations that were once not members of NATO. This year, Lithuania has signed a Letter of Intent to become the fourth framework nation of the Corps.
MNCNE has become a symbol of NATO's cohesion, and its headquarters in Szczecin – east of the former Iron Curtain – serves as a powerful reminder of how far Europe has come since the days of division.
In his address, General Miglietta said: “Today, Multinational Corps Northeast continues to play a vital role in the defence and security of the Alliance. In the face of Russian aggression against Ukraine, the Corps is at the forefront of coordinating NATO’s enhanced forward presence and supporting Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty and independence. The efforts in this regard are crucial, demonstrating NATO’s steadfast commitment to assisting Ukraine while reinforcing the deterrence and defence posture of our Alliance and protect the integrity of our borders.”
